Overview

  • Kieran Shepherd, 30, was chased at about 12:24pm on October 15, 2024 in Great Baddow and was found injured six minutes later before being pronounced dead at 1:22pm.
  • Joseph Dawe, Zack O'Keeffe and Harrison Carpenter, all 20, deny murder at Chelmsford Crown Court, where the trial is continuing.
  • Prosecutor Tracy Ayling KC told jurors Shepherd was stabbed twice in the back with a blade about 30cm long, with wounds passing through his left lung and into his heart.
  • O'Keeffe testified that he panicked and acted in self-defence, said he had previously supplied cocaine to Shepherd, and claimed he swung a knife he believed the victim was reaching for.
  • Cleaner Holly Duffett’s 999 call was played to the jury, and a statement from Olivia McElvaney said the group admitted being responsible and alleged O'Keeffe said it 'had to be done.'
