CCTV Leads to Jail Terms for Two After Pub Bag Theft in the City of London

Police say CCTV-driven investigations are key to tackling acquisitive crime in the Square Mile.

Overview

  • Hecham Bourhar, 29, and Mohammed Kraifa, 34, were each sentenced to 18 weeks for stealing a bag at a New Street pub near Liverpool Street station on 11 November.
  • Bourhar received an additional eight weeks for breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from the City, to be served concurrently.
  • CCTV shows Kraifa dragging the bag toward them with his foot before Bourhar lifted it and the pair walked out.
  • The stolen items, including a laptop, were valued at about £2,000, and both men were identified as living on Wood Street in Walthamstow.
  • City of London Police highlighted ongoing work by the Proactive Acquisitive Crime Team, noting arrests at a Leadenhall Market pub on 20 November and broader London theft concerns such as 117,211 mobile phones reported stolen in 2024.
