CCH Sur Reopens for Guided Inspections as Class Resumption Date Remains Unset

Parents and students question whether promised security and support measures are fully in place.

Overview

  • UNAM is holding supervised tours from Nov. 24–26 by semester to review safety upgrades after reversing a plan to restart in-person classes on Nov. 24.
  • Authorities report 15 turnstiles with metal detectors, 70 surveillance cameras, 50 emergency buttons, 120 meters of perimeter fencing and railings, and 271 new luminaires.
  • Senior officials Fernando Macedo, Benjamín Barajas and plant director Susana Lira led the site visits, with about 1,476 students and more than 400 parents and teachers participating on the first day.
  • Seven on-campus kiosks provide psychological and community support information, with university programs such as PEAPU, ESPORA and PROAPEE alongside planned vaccination and preventive health activities.
  • Community representatives say lighting and staffing commitments are incomplete—citing missing luminaires, only eight guards per shift and restricted access during tours—and they oppose setting a return date until work is verified.
