CCEA Approves Rs 6,957-Crore Upgrade of Assam’s NH-715 With 34.5 Km Elevated Kaziranga Corridor

The approval opens bidding for a design-build package that prioritizes safer wildlife movement through an elevated corridor.

Overview

  • Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the CCEA cleared four-laning of the 85.675 km Kalibor–Numaligarh section under the EPC model at a cost of Rs 6,957 crore.
  • The plan features an approximately 34.5 km elevated stretch across the Kaziranga segment to enable free wildlife passage between the park and the Karbi Anglong Hills.
  • The project includes 30.22 km of at-grade upgrades and two greenfield bypasses—11.5 km at Jakhalabandha and 9.5 km at Bokakhat—to ease town congestion.
  • The upgraded corridor will integrate with NH-127, NH-129 and SH-35 and connect to three railway stations and three airports to strengthen regional links.
  • Officials project 15.42 lakh direct and 19.19 lakh indirect person-days of employment, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma publicly welcomed the decision.
