CBSE Tightens Rules for Correcting Class 10, 12 Demographic Records

Principals must ensure end-to-end verification, with incomplete correction requests rejected.

Overview

  • CBSE issued a new circular dated September 2 directing affiliated schools to ensure 100% accuracy of student names, parents’ names and dates of birth in official records.
  • The board says schools have nearly 20 checkpoints to validate data, from admission and Class IX registration to LOC submission, admit cards and mark sheets.
  • Written assurance from parents at admission is now required, and schools must keep accurate admission forms, scholar registers, withdrawal registers and transfer certificates.
  • Correction requests must be routed through schools with certified records from previous institutions, with CBSE warning that incomplete or unclear documentation will be summarily rejected.
  • Students have been advised not to approach CBSE directly or via legal notices or courts for demographic changes, as such routes cause delays without school-verified records.
