CBSE Sets May 31 Deadline for Class 6 Third-Language Uploads

The board is tightening enforcement to align schools with NEP 2020 multilingual goals.

Overview

  • CBSE’s follow-up circular on Tuesday sets May 31, 2026 as the final date for schools to upload or correct Class 6 third-language (R3) choices on the OASIS portal.
  • Schools that do not yet teach two Indian languages must start from July 1, 2026 under the R1–R2–R3 three-language model.
  • Textbooks for languages in the Constitution’s Eighth Schedule will be posted on NCERT and CBSE websites before July 1, while non-scheduled options must use SCERT or state-approved books that meet NCF-SE 2023 goals.
  • Regional offices will track compliance and help schools, and entries that break the rules may face scrutiny from those offices.
  • CBSE says many schools have opted in already but others submitted gaps or errors, prompting this push that builds on its April 9 circular under the NCF-SE 2023 framework.
