Overview
- CBSE, in a circular issued Friday, set July 1, 2026 for Class 9 to study three languages, with at least two being Indian.
- The third language will have no Class 10 board exam, will be assessed internally, and will still appear on CBSE certificates.
- For 2026–27, schools will use Class 6-level R3 textbooks, get detailed teaching guidance by June 15, and must update R3 offerings on the OASIS portal by June 30.
- To handle teacher gaps, CBSE permits Sahodaya cluster sharing, hybrid or online classes, retired educators, qualified postgraduates, and use of staff with language proficiency.
- Children with Special Needs and some overseas or returning students will get relaxations, and foreign languages are limited to the R3 slot if the other two are Indian or to an optional fourth subject.
