Overview
- Students must have at least 75% attendance to sit Class 10 and 12 exams, with up to 25% condonation only for documented medical cases, bereavement or national-level participation.
- Internal assessment is mandatory as a two-year process under NEP-2020, and results will not be declared for those lacking internal marks, who will be placed in the Essential Repeat category.
- CBSE now treats Classes 9–10 and 11–12 as integrated two-year programmes, requiring subjects to be studied across both years to qualify for board exams.
- Additional subjects are capped at two in Class 10 and one in Class 12, and can be offered only by schools with CBSE approval, qualified teachers and requisite infrastructure.
- Private candidates can no longer take new additional subjects from 2026, with eligibility limited to those who earlier chose an additional subject and were in Compartment or Essential Repeat, as CBSE directs schools to complete Class 9 and 11 registrations via the Pariksha Sangam portal.
