CBSE Clarifies Dual-Session Class 10 Rules for 2026, Publishes Detailed Marks Scheme

Students may reattempt up to three subjects in the second session, with the higher score reflected on the marksheet.

Overview

  • In a November 20 national webinar streamed on YouTube, CBSE explained that Class 10 will have two full board sessions from 2026, with the first mandatory in February–March, the second optional in May, and results planned for April and June respectively.
  • The board confirmed that up to three subjects can be improved in the second session, one or two failures can appear as compartment, and failing three or more in the first session will be treated as Essential Repeat.
  • CBSE has released a subject-wise annexure fixing each subject at 100 marks and detailing theory, practical, project and internal assessment splits, external examiner requirements, and the formats of practical and theory answer books.
  • Practicals, project work and internal assessments will be conducted from January 1 to February 14, 2026, with a strict warning that mark-upload errors by schools will not be corrected after evaluation.
  • Final theory exams are scheduled for Class 10 from February 17 to March 10, 2026, and for Class 12 from February 17 to April 9, 2026, with an additional advisory urging use of only genuine NCERT textbooks.
