CBSE Calls Schools to Enter UPU 2026 Letter Writing Contest on Human Connection

India Post will run circle and national rounds with top entries advancing to the global UPU selection.

Overview

  • CBSE issued a January 13 circular asking affiliated schools to hold school-level contests, brief students on the rules, and coordinate with designated Nodal Officers whose details will be posted by India Post.
  • The 2026 theme asks students to write a letter to a friend explaining why human connection matters in a digital world.
  • The Department of Posts will select winners at Circle and National levels with cash awards of Rs 25,000, Rs 10,000, and Rs 5,000 at Circle level and Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 10,000 at National level, then forward the top national entry to the UPU.
  • Eligibility covers ages 9–15 with proof of age, letters must be handwritten up to 800 words, entries must be filed through Postal Circle Nodal Officers rather than sent directly, and students may write in English or any Eighth Schedule language.
  • Entries should reach Postal Circles by March 20 with the top three per circle sent to the Directorate by March 31, and the UPU will later award Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals with possible additional recognition such as a visit to its headquarters in Berne.
