CBSE Backs On‑Screen Marking After Class 12 Pass Rate Drops

The board points students to its photocopy process followed by re-evaluation.

Overview

  • CBSE, which issued a notice Friday, said on-screen marking improves transparency, consistency and fairness, and it confirmed the review window will stay open.
  • Examiners now grade scanned answer sheets on computers with stepwise marking and auto totaling, and the board says this removes manual posting and calculation errors across 98.66 lakh scripts.
  • This year’s result recorded an 85.20% pass rate, a 3.19‑point drop, with about 1.77 million candidates, which makes the fall larger in absolute numbers.
  • Students reported unexpectedly low scores in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, sharing mark sheets on social media and questioning evaluator training.
  • Principals described a rushed rollout and one examiner alleged glitches that failed to register marks, while other teachers said the digital process reduced common errors.
