CBSA Seizes Over 61 kg of Narcotics, Including 1.73 kg of Fentanyl, During Operation Blizzard

It reflects Canada’s stepped-up efforts to halt cross-border opioid flows through coordinated partnerships with U.S. authorities.

Overview

  • Operation Blizzard ran from February 12 to March 13 as part of the federal Border Plan, targeting postal, air and sea shipments.
  • Officers carried out more than 2,600 seizures nationwide, with 67.5% of intercepted narcotics entering Canada from the United States.
  • Fentanyl seizures totaled 116 incidents and 1.73 kg of the synthetic opioid, most of which was en route to U.S. markets.
  • Additional major intercepts included 148 kg of methamphetamine at Vancouver International Airport, 142 kg of cocaine in Montreal rail containers and 154 kg of ketamine at Toronto Pearson.
  • The CBSA says it will maintain these surge operations to strengthen border security and disrupt organized crime networks.
