Overview

  • On May 23, CBSA officers intercepted a commercial truck at Windsor’s Ambassador Bridge carrying 187.5 kilograms of suspected cocaine.
  • A secondary examination uncovered the drugs hidden in two suitcases and five garbage bags inside the trailer.
  • The seizure’s estimated street value is $23.4 million and driver Kambiz Karandish, 55, was arrested and charged with importation and trafficking.
  • A month earlier, an intelligence-led operation at Blue Water Bridge resulted in the arrest of a 27-year-old Brampton man after agents found 161 bricks of cocaine.
  • CBSA and the RCMP said adaptive intelligence gathering and screening technology have been key to disrupting evolving smuggling methods.
