The mid-August stops followed secondary examinations of U.S.-arriving commercial loads, with cases now before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia.

Overview

  • On August 13, officers conducting a secondary inspection found 150 kg of suspected cocaine packed in six boxes inside a truck from the United States.
  • On August 14, a separate secondary exam of a tractor-trailer uncovered 199 kg of suspected cocaine concealed within the commercial load.
  • CBSA arrested Gurjeet Singh, 28, of Brampton, and Abdikadir Egal, 38, of Etobicoke, and transferred both men and the narcotics to the RCMP.
  • The RCMP charged both suspects with importation of cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • CBSA estimates the seizures at about $18.8 million and $24.9 million in street value, and both matters are now before a Sarnia court as investigations continue.
