CBSA Charges Windsor Man After OFSET Seizes 48 Firearms and 30 Auto Sears

Border parcel interceptions in three cities prompted a July search that uncovered a large cache at a Windsor home.

  • CBSA says officers in Windsor, Toronto and Montreal intercepted four U.S.-origin parcels in May and June that were all destined for the same Windsor address.
  • On July 17, OFSET executed a search warrant at the residence, with Windsor police’s Emergency Services Unit conducting a tactical entry.
  • Investigators seized 48 firearms, 30 prohibited auto sears, 175 magazines including 104 prohibited and four 50‑round drum magazines, and about 17,000 rounds of ammunition.
  • Hengwei Zhong, 30, of Windsor, was arrested and charged under the Customs Act and Criminal Code with smuggling, unauthorized importation, attempting to manufacture a firearm, and multiple possession and storage offences.
  • The charges are subject to court validation and the accused was scheduled to appear on September 29, with officials crediting the operation as removing dangerous devices from circulation.
