CBSA Announces Windsor Seizure of 48 Firearms as 30-Year-Old Is Charged

The agency says a July 17 search followed parcel interceptions in May and June.

Overview

  • CBSA’s Ontario Firearms Smuggling Enforcement Team executed a July 17 search at a Windsor residence, securing 48 guns, about 17,000 rounds, 175 magazines and various firearm parts.
  • Investigators say 30 prohibited auto sears and 104 prohibited magazines, including four 50-round drums, were among the items seized.
  • Hengwei Zhong, 30, of Windsor, was arrested and charged under the Customs Act and Criminal Code, with counts including smuggling and attempting to manufacture a firearm.
  • The Windsor Police Emergency Services Unit assisted with a tactical entry during the warrant, according to the agency.
  • Zhong was scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 29, and officials noted the charges require court validation as Public Safety Minister Gary Anandasangaree praised the CBSA’s role in stopping illegal guns.
