CBP Intercepts 131 Pounds of Cannabis in Separate Busts at O’Hare and Dulles

Passenger Enforcement Rover Teams are using targeted luggage exams to break up high-volume drug rings sending bulk loads overseas

Overview

  • On July 24, CBP agents at Chicago O’Hare selected a Los AngelesSão Paulo bound couple for a Passenger Enforcement Rover Team exam and discovered 72 pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana hashish concealed in two suitcases.
  • Officers also found cocaine hydrochloride, ecstasy and ketamine among the smaller parcels in the male traveler’s luggage at O’Hare.
  • At Washington Dulles, CBP stopped a Las Vegas passenger boarding for Frankfurt and seized over 59 pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana packaged in 50 sealed parcels.
  • Last month, CBP recorded total drug seizures of 60,470 pounds across air, land and sea ports, reflecting an intensification of outbound inspection efforts.
  • Despite state-level legalization, federal law bans international cannabis transport, prompting traffickers to exploit major U.S. hubs for lucrative overseas markets.
