Overview

  • On June 24, beagle Freddie alerted his handler to luggage containing more than 100 pounds of prohibited agricultural items before a passenger kicked him in the ribs.
  • The attack by 70-year-old Hamed Aly Marie caused a contusion and bruising that required emergency veterinary care.
  • Two days later, Marie pleaded guilty to malicious assault on a police animal, covered Freddie’s $840 medical bill, was sentenced to time served and deported to Egypt.
  • After a two-week recovery period, Freddie has fully healed and completed health evaluations to resume agricultural screening duties at Dulles International Airport.
  • Since joining CBP 22 months ago as a rescue dog, Freddie has detected over 4,500 pounds of plant products and 3,800 pounds of meat to protect U.S. agriculture.
