CBI Traps Manipur Senior Accountant Taking Rs 10,000 Bribe in MACP Case

The sting links to a wider northeastern graft investigation that earlier uncovered large cash holdings tied to highway contract approvals now under verification.

The accused, identified as Irom Bishorjit Singh of the Principal Accountant General’s office in Imphal, allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 to clear a MACP file.
The CBI, working with the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Imphal, arrested him after catching him red-handed accepting Rs 10,000.
Investigators said searches are underway at Singh’s premises and the inquiry remains in progress.
Last month, a separate CBI trap led to the arrest of an NHIDCL executive director in Guwahati while taking Rs 10 lakh for favourable time extension and a completion certificate on the NH-37 project.
Follow-up searches in Guwahati, Ghaziabad and Imphal recovered about Rs 2.62 crore in cash and records of luxury assets, and the agency is verifying suspected undervaluation of properties as part of the probe.
