CBI Reverse Trap Nabs Two Over Rs 22 Lakh Bribe in GST Betting Probe

CBI has named a Mumbai CGST superintendent with a company lawyer in an expanding case tied to offshore betting firms.

Overview

  • Two private individuals, Ram Sevak Singh and Sachin Kumar Gupta, were arrested on September 2 while delivering a Rs 22 lakh bribe to a GST Intelligence superintendent.
  • The Kolkata-based officer, identified as Vivek Pratap Singh, had filed a complaint and cooperated with a planned counter-sting that recorded meetings and calls.
  • An FIR names CGST officer Abhishek Katiyar and advocate Priyanka Singh, along with firms Artimbe IT Pvt. Ltd. and Appnit Technologies Pvt. Ltd., for their alleged roles.
  • Investigators say the enquiry traced links to offshore betting sites including lordexch.com, lordsexch.com and lotusbook247.com, a UPI ID tied to Artimbe, and a bank account of Appnit Technologies led by director Nitin Kapoor.
  • CBI has launched searches at multiple locations to gather documents and financial evidence and to map payment channels connected to the alleged tax-evasion scheme.
