Overview
- Tapan Pramanik was arrested in Nadia district, West Bengal, and produced before a local court as the CBI sought transit remand to move him to Tripura.
- Pramanik had been absconding since 2012 and was declared a proclaimed offender by a special court in Gomati district on January 16, 2023.
- The case, registered on October 8, 2013, involves alleged misappropriation of about ₹3–4 crore linked to M.P.S. Agro-Animal Projects Ltd, with charge-sheets filed in 2015 and 2019.
- The CBI traced Pramanik through field verification, physical surveillance, call detail record analysis, and tracking of digital footprints.
- In a separate operation, the CBI’s Shillong team detained proclaimed offender Tamanna Chakma in Guwahati after she failed to appear in a long-running financial fraud case.
