CBI, Jharkhand ATS Bring Back Sunil Kumar After Extradition From Azerbaijan

  • Sunil Kumar, also known as Mayank Singh, arrived in Mumbai with a Jharkhand ATS team on August 23 before being taken to Ranchi, and police plan to present him in a Ramgarh court to seek remand.
  • The CBI’s International Police Cooperation Unit worked with Interpol’s NCB-Baku, with a three-member Jharkhand Police team traveling to Baku on August 19 to complete the handover.
  • Jharkhand ATS termed the operation the first successful extradition in the history of the state police.
  • Authorities say he faces over 50 cases across Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Punjab, including a 2022 Patratu case alleging WhatsApp threats to extort businesspeople, coal transporters and railway contractors.
  • Investigators plan to question him about alleged ties to the Aman Sahu network and possible links to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
