Overview

  • On May 27, the CBI registered a fresh FIR in New Delhi under sections 108 (abetment to suicide) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, seizing Shimla police records and constituting a three-member team led by DSP Brijendra Prasad Singh.
  • The Himachal Pradesh High Court on May 23 transferred the case from a state-led SIT to the CBI after the DGP’s status report flagged procedural lapses, and the court barred state-cadre officers from the federal investigation.
  • An April fact-finding report by Additional Chief Secretary Onkar Sharma documented workplace harassment and pressure on Vimal Negi to confer undue favours in the Pekhubella solar project, and it called for further expert inquiry.
  • Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has assured full cooperation with the federal agency and sent key officials—including DGP Atul Verma, ACS Onkar Sharma and SP Sanjeev Gandhi—on leave in a broader bureaucratic reshuffle.
  • The BJP submitted a memorandum to Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla demanding protection of evidence and an expanded CBI probe into alleged HPPCL corruption and administrative irregularities.
