CBI Files Disproportionate-Assets Case Against Suspended Punjab DIG as Middleman Gets 9-Day Custody

New charges and fresh custody turn the inquiry toward money trails, property holdings and possible links to other officials.

Overview

  • CBI registered a fresh FIR alleging DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar amassed assets beyond known income under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 61(2) of the BNS.
  • Seizures recorded in the FIR include about ₹7.36 crore in cash, gold and silver worth roughly ₹2.32 crore, 26 luxury watches, documents for around 150 acres, high-end cars and about ₹2.95 crore in bank and fixed deposits.
  • A CBI special court granted nine days of police custody for alleged middleman Kirshanu Sharda to confront roughly 100 GB of extracted phone data and a seized diary indicating wider contacts.
  • Judicial orders directed preservation of CCTV and visitor records at Burail jail related to Sharda, and separately ordered preservation of CCTV footage from the DIG’s Mohali office for the defense.
  • Bhullar remains suspended and in judicial custody in the original bribery case following a trap operation, while investigators examine family holdings and possible benami links.
