CBI Court Grants Partha Chatterjee Bail in SSC Cases, Release Blocked by Other Cases

Separate ED and primary recruitment cases still block his release from custody.

Overview

  • A Special CBI court in Alipore granted Partha Chatterjee bail on SSC-linked charges on a personal bond of Rs 7,000, marking his first such relief from a lower court in these cases.
  • Despite the bail order, he remains detained because of pending proceedings tied to alleged irregularities in primary teacher recruitments and related PMLA matters.
  • TMC MLA Paresh Chandra Adhikari and his daughter Ankita surrendered before the court and received conditional bail in the Class 11–12 recruitment case after being chargesheeted by the CBI.
  • CBI counsel opposed the bail pleas, citing the accuseds' roles and the wider social impact, while the court had summoned 75 individuals in connection with multiple SSC charge sheets.
  • Investigators have filed four CBI charge sheets across SSC recruitments, and the ED has separately chargesheeted minister Chandranath Sinha over alleged fictitious transactions of about Rs 1.5 crore.
