CBI Busts Alleged Bribery Racket in Jhansi CGST Office After Sting

The agency says the investigation continues following arrests linked to a Rs 1.5 crore demand to influence GST‑evasion cases.

  • CBI teams laid a trap on December 30 and caught the two superintendents allegedly accepting Rs 70 lakh in cash said to be on behalf of the deputy commissioner.
  • Searches after the arrests recovered about Rs 1.60 crore in cash as well as property documents, jewellery and bullion, according to officials.
  • The operation followed information that members of a syndicate were seeking Rs 1.5 crore to extend favourable treatment in GST evasion matters involving private firms.
  • The accused are to be produced before a competent court after medical examinations, and the CBI states that further actions may follow as the probe progresses.
