Overview
- The CBI registered a case on Nov. 5 after a labour contractor accused Senior Section Engineer Ajayveer Singh of demanding ₹1,500 per worker to allow 30 labourers to continue on duty.
- Acting on that complaint, CBI teams laid a trap and arrested Singh on Friday at New Katni Junction after recovering the ₹45,000 payment from him.
- Investigators carried out searches of Singh’s home and office to seize documents and other evidence and the recovered cash was recorded in the probe.
- Singh underwent a medical check and was produced before a Jabalpur court, which remanded him to judicial custody until Nov. 12 while the agency collects further evidence.
- The case highlights how CBI trap operations work in corruption probes and could prompt parallel departmental action at West Central Railway and the filing of formal charges next in the investigation.
