CBI Arrests WCL Foreman Over Rs 40,000 Bribe Tied to Mutual Transfers

The arrest followed a complaint after CBI verification documented a negotiated Rs 40,000 demand for processing two staff transfers.

  • Deepak Jaiswal, foreman in-charge at Naigaon Open Cast Mine in the Neeljai Sub Area of Western Coalfields Limited, was caught in a CBI trap while accepting the bribe.
  • The case was registered on January 9 following a written complaint by senior clerk K. L. Nagrale of Neeljal Deep Open Cast Mine.
  • Investigators said the initial demand totaled Rs 50,000, or Rs 25,000 each, for facilitating mutual transfers of two WCL employees.
  • The transfers involved mining sirdar Dinesh Gedam of Gondegaon Open Cast Mine and overman Arvind Kudphe of Gokul Open Cast Mine in the Umred Area.
  • The CBI cited Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the FIR, and the probe is proceeding after the verification recorded a negotiated total of Rs 40,000.
