CBI Arrests Two Proclaimed Offenders in Long-Running Fraud Cases

Digital footprint analysis guided teams to suspects across two states.

Overview

  • CBI arrested Tapan Pramanik in Nadia district, West Bengal, in a Tripura chit-fund case involving alleged public collections of about Rs 3–4 crore.
  • Pramanik, a director of M.P.S. Agro-Animal Projects Ltd, had been absconding since around 2012 and was declared a proclaimed offender on January 16, 2023.
  • Investigators used CDR analysis, digital-footprint tracing, field verification and physical surveillance to locate and detain him.
  • Pramanik was produced before a Nadia court as the agency sought transit remand to move him to Tripura for further proceedings.
  • In a separate case, the CBI’s Shillong team detained Tamanna Chakma in Guwahati after she failed to appear post-conviction in May 2024 in a long-running misappropriation matter.
