CBI Arrests MCL Sub-Area Manager and Intermediary in Rs 20,000 Bribe Trap

Overview

  • The accused official, posted at Hirakud Bundia Mines in the Rampur sub-area of Jharsuguda, allegedly sought Rs 30,000 to influence a pending departmental enquiry.
  • Investigators say the demand was negotiated to Rs 20,000 as a first instalment to be routed through a private middleman.
  • After registering a case on August 20, the CBI laid a trap and caught the intermediary accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant.
  • The Sub-area Manager was subsequently apprehended when he received the same amount from the associate, according to officials.
  • Both suspects are under arrest and being questioned, and the agency has urged citizens to report corruption with anonymity assured under the Whistleblower Protection Act.
