CBI arrests ED deputy director in ₹2 crore bribery case

Caught in a trap operation on May 29 the officer now faces 14 days of judicial custody with a bail hearing scheduled for June 4.

Overview

  • Deputy Director Chintan Raghuvanshi is accused of demanding ₹5 crore from businessman Ratikanta Rout to secure relief in a 2020 ED money laundering case.
  • Through middleman Bhaghti the bribe demand was negotiated down to ₹2 crore with ₹50 lakh due as the first installment on May 28.
  • The CBI laid a trap in Bhubaneswar on May 29 and apprehended Raghuvanshi while he was accepting ₹20 lakh of the agreed sum.
  • A special CBI court remanded Raghuvanshi to 14 days of judicial custody on May 30.
  • His bail petition is pending and will be heard on June 4 as the investigation into alleged abuse of power continues.
