CBI Arrests Delhi Police ASI in Rs 2.4 Lakh Bribe Trap, Registers Separate NHAI Assets Case

The agency is pursuing complaint-led traps plus asset audits to probe alleged graft in policing and highway administration.

Overview

  • ASI Patil Kumar of Jyoti Nagar Police Station was caught in a CBI trap on November 9 while taking Rs 2.40 lakh from a litigant tied to a Karkardooma Court property case.
  • Officials say the officer had allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh for a favourable police verification and threatened an adverse report if payment was withheld.
  • The case was registered after the property owner filed a formal complaint, and the CBI says the accused has been apprehended with the investigation ongoing.
  • In a separate action, the CBI filed an FIR on October 30 against former NHAI Project Director-cum-GM Arvind R. Kale after an assets–income–expenditure review for April 1, 2022 to March 3, 2024.
  • The assessment indicated roughly Rs 1.56 crore in disproportionate assets, about 179% above known income, with DSP Harish Goel approving the FIR registration.
