CBF Draw Sets Copa do Brasil Quarterfinals With Three State Classics

  • The Confederação Brasileira de Futebol held the quarterfinal draw on Tuesday, August 11, in Rio de Janeiro and confirmed the four ties as Grêmio vs Internacional, Cruzeiro vs Atlético-MG, Palmeiras vs Santos and Vasco vs Vitória.
  • Quarterfinal first legs are set for 26–27 August and return legs for 2–3 September and the draw also fixed the full bracket to the single-match final on 6 December.
  • CBF assigned home order for each tie, including Vasco hosting the first leg against Vitória at São Januário and Vitória hosting the return at Barradão.
  • The quarterfinal phase will use semi-automatic offside technology for the first time in this knockout stage and each club that reaches the semifinals will receive an additional R$9 million in prize money.
  • The draw produced a rare outcome with three state classics in the same quarterfinals, a result calculated at roughly a 0.95% chance, and marks the first time this edition’s last eight are all Serie A clubs after a tournament that began with 126 teams.
