CBDT Lets Taxpayers View Foreign-Asset Data in AIS

Individuals can securely view bank, investment, income records from more than 100 partner countries so they can correct return filings.

Overview

  • The Income Tax Department enabled the feature on the e‑Filing portal on Thursday, July 16, allowing PAN holders to open their Annual Information Statement (AIS) and download foreign‑asset reports for calendar years 2022–2024.
  • The data shown in AIS comes from Automatic Exchange of Information (AEOI) flows that India receives from over 100 partner jurisdictions and may include foreign bank accounts, custodial holdings, investments, interest and dividends.
  • Taxpayers can view the information only through their secure e‑Filing login by going to AIS → Compliance Portal → Reports → 'Foreign Assets Information' and selecting the year to download a PDF.
  • The CBDT says the AIS is a facilitation tool to reduce inadvertent errors and improve voluntary compliance, but it warns the listing is not exhaustive and taxpayers must still fully declare overseas assets and foreign income in Schedule FA and Schedule FSI.
  • The department is sending SMS and email alerts and promoting the Kar Saathi AI assistant to guide filers ahead of Assessment Year 2026‑27 returns, and the AIS will include CY2025 data once partner countries deliver it around September–October 2026.
