Overview

  • The deadline for filing non-audit ITRs for FY 2024-25 has been pushed back to September 15, 2025 to accommodate extensive form revisions and system readiness.
  • E-filing utilities for ITR-1 and ITR-4 are operational; tools for detailed ITR-2 and ITR-3 remain under development, preventing some taxpayers from starting their returns.
  • Taxpayers should anticipate slower refund processing this year as backend technical upgrades and late release of complex return utilities push back timelines and reduce interest benefits.
  • Returns must be e-verified within 30 days via Aadhaar OTP, net banking or EVC, and filers should reconcile their submissions with Form 26AS and the Annual Information Statement to avoid notices.
  • The revised ITR forms include new capital gains schedules, expanded TDS disclosures and presumptive taxation rules, with the new tax regime set as the default unless opted out via Form 10-IEA.
