Cavs' Max Strus Still Without Return Timeline as Next Practice Window Points to Mid-January

A full-contact session is required for clearance, with the team’s crowded slate pushing that opportunity toward Jan. 18.

Overview

  • Head coach Kenny Atkinson said Strus has not begun team practices and offered no timetable, noting, “The timeline is what it is.”
  • Strus had surgery on Aug. 26 to repair a Jones fracture in his left foot, with an initial estimate of resuming basketball activities in roughly three to four months.
  • He is completing individual on-court work that includes shooting, movement and cutting to test stability and pain tolerance in the foot.
  • The Cavaliers play every other day from Dec. 29 to Jan. 16, and the next official practice may not occur until Jan. 18 before hosting Oklahoma City.
  • Upon clearance, the team plans to manage his minutes, and he is expected to work back into the starting small forward role after missing 33 games in a second straight season of early absences.
