Cavaliers' Max Strus Has Surgery for Jones Fracture, Expected Out 3–4 Months

  • Strus sustained a Jones fracture in his left fifth metatarsal during an offseason workout, the team said.
  • The surgery was performed in Indianapolis by Dr. David Porter in consultation with Cavaliers team physician Dr. James Rosneck at Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics.
  • The Cavaliers project a three- to four-month timeline to resume basketball activities, ruling him out for training camp and the Oct. 22 opener at New York.
  • Cleveland plans short-term rotation adjustments with Hunter, Sam Merrill, Dean Wade and Jaylon Tyson among candidates for expanded roles.
  • The veteran wing missed the start of last season due to an offseason ankle sprain and averaged 9.4 points on 38.6% from three across 50 games in 2024–25.
