Overview
- Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to The Hippodrome on Queen Street at about 1:12pm, deploying eight appliances and additional crews.
- The fire was brought under control by around 3:30pm after firefighters used breathing apparatus and hosereel jets.
- Hidden fire spread behind wooden panelling and the building layout made the incident complex to tackle.
- Damage from fire, heat and smoke affected the floor, walls and ceiling in the raised seating area, and nearby roads were closed during the response.
- JD Wetherspoon has begun clean-up work and is awaiting contractor checks on electrics and gas, with the pub temporarily closed for repairs.
