Overview
- The Verkehrspolizei Nesselwang reconstructed that on the night of August 12 Haas lost control on a steep descent into a gravel bed, causing his E-bike to flip and him to suffer fatal head injuries despite wearing a helmet.
- No evidence of external involvement was found and his body was discovered the following morning by a passerby in a meadow near Nesselwang.
- The Bistum Augsburg announced Haas’s death and Bishop Bertram Meier expressed deep shock at the sudden loss of the 60-year-old cleric.
- Funeral rites including a rosary, requiem, and burial have been set for August 19 at the parish church in Wohmbrechts.
- A late vocation ordained in 1998, Haas led the Starnberg parish from 2006 to 2017, served the Pfronten-Nesselwang community, and became dean of Marktoberdorf in 2022.
