Overview
- Under Article 12.8, Chief Justice Donal O’Donnell will read the presidential declaration, which Catherine Connolly will repeat in Irish before signing to take office.
- The ceremony will be held in St Patrick’s Hall at Dublin Castle, the venue for every presidential inauguration since 1938.
- After the Seal of Office is presented, a 21‑gun salute will fire from Collins Barracks, an 83‑member Defence Forces guard of honour will form up, and four PC‑9 aircraft will conduct a flypast.
- Guests include the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste, members of the judiciary and parties across the Oireachtas, Northern Ireland First Minister Michelle O’Neill, and representatives from across Irish society.
- Until the oath is taken just before lunchtime, presidential functions rest with a commission comprising Donal O’Donnell, Verona Murphy and Mark Daly, after which Connolly will address guests, travel to Áras an Uachtaráin and return for a state reception.
