Overview
- The ES-Alert exercise will cover Barcelona and the comarcas of Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Maresme, Vallès Oriental and Vallès Occidental, reaching anyone whose phone is in the area at that time.
- More than five million devices are expected to show a clearly marked test message in Catalan, Spanish and English.
- Phones will sound a loud distinctive tone that stops only after users interact with the screen.
- Residents are instructed not to call 112 during the drill, and those who must avoid the sound can use airplane mode or power off, though some models may still play the alarm.
- After the test, the Generalitat will launch an anonymous survey to log whether the alert arrived, the language displayed and the mobile operator.
