- President Salvador Illa has called a Tuesday meeting with the heads of Renfe and Adif to demand urgent, structural measures to limit the impact of ongoing works on service.
- An analysis of July and August found 249 unforeseen incidents on the R1, R2 Sud, R2 Nord, R3 and R4 with no day free of problems, alongside about 1,500 train cancellations.
- Train failures were the leading cause over the summer with 166 incidents, followed by 73 infrastructure faults and 20 operational errors, reflecting an aging fleet and stressed network.
- Beyond the multi-year totals, the network lost 420,421 minutes of service (about 291 days) in 2022–2024, incidents jumped to 316 in 2024—up 146% from 2023—and most recorded cases were in Regional services.
