Catalonia Launches Early Flu and COVID Vaccination for Priority Groups

Officials advanced the rollout to boost uptake before an expected earlier flu wave.

Overview

  • The first phase begins today for care-home residents, people aged 80 and over, pregnant people, children 6–59 months for flu only, and health and social-care staff.
  • The second phase opens on 13 October for other recommended groups, including people 60+, those at risk, residents in disability care, teachers and essential services.
  • Health authorities procured 1.6 million trivalent flu doses and will deploy monovalent COVID vaccines adapted to variant LP8.1, with additional COVID supply provided as needed.
  • Appointments are available via the La Meva Salut app, citasalut.gencat.cat or by calling the CAP, with expanded schedules on weekdays and some Saturdays in morning and afternoon slots.
  • The campaign targets last season’s low coverage and seeks to get ahead of a flu wave expected 2–4 weeks earlier, with co-administration allowed and an intranasal option for some children.
