Overview
- The Generalitat announced on Tuesday that it has created the Oficina de Protecció de Drets Lingüístics to receive complaints and help people assert their right to use Catalan in public services and businesses.
- The office will report to the Secretaría General of the Departament de Política Lingüística, offer case guidance to citizens, coordinate with local and regional administrations and in relevant instances refer matters to judicial bodies.
- The announcement was made at the one-year review of the Pacte Nacional per la Llengua, where the government said about 62% of more than 200 measures are complete and highlighted expansions in adult Catalan courses and a new A1 certificate.
- The Generalitat said it is finalising a sectoral plan with employer groups and unions to promote Catalan use at work, and described recent moves to cut course waiting lists from roughly 20% to about 5% by funding extra places.
