Catalonia Activates Flood Plan as Severe Storms Lash Pyrenees and Target Ebro Counties

Forecasters warn of large hail with a sharp temperature drop, raising flood risk.

  • Protecció Civil has INUNCAT active from Sunday 02:00 to Monday 02:00 with a maximum danger level of 4 out of 6 for heavy rain across most of Catalonia.
  • Meteocat issued a red warning for Alt Urgell, Pallars Jussà and Pallars Sobirà for violent weather including hail over 2 cm, wind gusts above 25 m/s and possible tornadoes.
  • Intense morning downpours in the Catalan Pyrenees delivered 20–40 mm in several sites, including 39.2 mm in La Pobla de Segur with 22.3 mm in 30 minutes.
  • The most torrential bursts are forecast this afternoon and evening in Baix Camp, Baix Ebre, Montsià and Ribera d’Ebre, where storms could reach 40 mm in 30 minutes as rain spreads across the territory.
  • The Ebro River authority has stepped up surveillance for sudden rises while emergency services urge residents to avoid crossing rieras and ravines and to postpone outdoor activities.
