Overview
- Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Institut Ramon Llull will restart Catalan courses in the second semester of 2025-2026.
- After a hiatus that began in 2019 following COVID-19, the program will be the only university-level Catalan offering in China within the Llull’s global network of 130 institutions.
- The collaboration includes new student exchange programs in commerce, finance and economics with Catalan universities.
- Plans are underway to train Chinese-to-Catalan translators to support expanded academic and professional use of the language.
- President Salvador Illa also flagged the Spanish government’s efforts to gain EU official status for Catalan, Basque and Galician.
