Castillo de Mandl in Córdoba Listed for $3.1 Million

The listing brings the estate's disputed wartime provenance, ties to Argentina's intelligence service, recovered colonial paintings, potential for boutique-hotel conversion into the market.

Overview

  • The property is being offered for US$3.1 million by JDC Propiedades and includes about 97,124 square meters of land and 16 bedrooms across three floors.
  • The house was built in the late 1920s by Bartolomé Vasallo and was bought and remodeled in the early 1940s by Austrian industrialist Fritz Mandl, whose wartime business ties and marriage to Hedy Lamarr shape the estate's public story.
  • After Mandl's ownership the site became linked with Argentina's intelligence service (SIDE), was used by senior officials and presidents, and was later concessioned to operate as a boutique hotel from 2006.
  • In April 1990 thieves stole 42 colonial-era works from the castle and Interpol later recovered 13 of those paintings in Spain, a provenance issue that could affect future sale and ownership checks.
  • The castle retains original marble and wood finishes, working chimneys and bespoke furnishings, which creates both conservation responsibilities and commercial appeal for investors pursuing luxury tourism conversion.
