CAS to Rule Tuesday on Israel’s Participation After Indonesia Revokes Visas for Gymnastics Worlds

The decision will clarify whether FIG’s visa requirement is enforced or the Jakarta championships proceed without Israeli athletes.

Overview

  • Indonesia’s minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra confirmed visas for Israeli gymnasts were annulled and invitation letters withdrawn, citing the country’s policy on Israel and the Gaza war.
  • A CAS spokesperson said the court will decide on Tuesday in expedited proceedings after Israel’s federation sought guaranteed entry or cancellation or relocation of the event.
  • FIG has so far only said it “takes note” of Indonesia’s move, despite Article 26.4 requiring hosts to grant visas to all member federations or face immediate annulment of the event award.
  • Germany’s DTB, joined by Swiss Gymnastics and Turnsport Austria, is preparing a joint letter urging FIG to secure visas for the Israeli delegation.
  • Israeli athletes, including reigning floor champion Artem Dolgopyat, appeared on earlier entry lists but were removed in the latest update for the Oct. 19–25 championships featuring more than 500 athletes from about 80 countries.
