Gabriel Barbosa, formerly of Flamengo, was cleared of any anti-doping offence by CAS

Overview

  • On July 4, 2025, the Court of Arbitration for Sport officially annulled the striker’s two-year suspension for alleged test tampering.
  • CAS judges determined that his uncooperative actions did not meet the threshold for tampering under WADA regulations.
  • Barbosa was originally banned in March 2024 by Brazil’s anti-doping tribunal over a delayed and contested sample collection from an April 2023 Flamengo match.
  • He remained active in competition after CAS provisionally cleared him during the appeal and joined Cruzeiro at the start of 2025.
  • The decision fully restores his playing eligibility and reaffirms CAS’s authority in overturning national anti-doping rulings.
