CAS Declines Jurisdiction in Uhlaender Case, Leaving U.S. Skeleton Roster Unchanged

The ad hoc Olympic panel only hears disputes arising within 10 days of the Games, placing the Jan. 11 Lake Placid points dispute outside its scope.

Overview

  • CAS ruled it could not hear Katie Uhlaender’s appeal because the race and IBSF decision occurred before the Jan. 27 cutoff for pre-Games disputes.
  • The IBSF had determined no rules were broken and the IOC deferred to that stance, confirming Kelly Curtis and Mystique Ro as the U.S. women’s skeleton entrants.
  • Uhlaender alleged Canada manipulated the Lake Placid field by withdrawing four athletes late, while Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton cited health, safety and development reasons and noted unintended effects.
  • Uhlaender sought full ranking points from the Jan. 11 race and asked the IOC for a discretionary place, requests that were not granted.
  • CAS likewise dismissed Ireland’s luge appeal on timing grounds after claims Elsa Desmond was denied a place and challenges to AIN allocations, with 106 luge spots filled by 105 athletes due to Wolfgang Kindl qualifying in two events.
